Campus FAQ
Who is the Campus for?
Movement School Campus is a space for progressive electoral organizers to learn, connect, and grow. The courses are intended for folks who fit in at least one of these three buckets:
Folks with full-time (paid or unpaid) roles on 2020 electoral campaigns
Folks who were on a 2020 electoral campaign, and are looking for a new role
Folks who work with a progressive grassroots organization that is engaged in electoral work
A crucial part of our methodology is that what is learned in the courses gets put into practice immediately.
Movement School will be publishing materials meant for a broader audience as well. If you don’t fit into one of these buckets, please sign up for our email list (in the footer) and follow us on Twitter to stay up to date.
What will I learn at Movement School? How will I learn?
Each certificate course lasts for 6 weeks, a deep dive into key strategies and tools. There will be one 2-hour session per week, conducted via Zoom. You will complete one main assignment in each course, as well as smaller bits of homework and tasks along the way. The assignments are meant to be integrated with your campaign work - i.e. upgrading your field plan or your finance plan. Within each course, you will be assigned to a study group - with folks who share some common traits. You will spend time with your study group during breakout sessions, and your study group will also provide intensive peer review on your assignment.
Everyone enrolled will also be part of the Campus, an online Slack space with organizers in every course. The Campus space will have community events, one-off trainings, and a series of professional development sessions.
All interaction is online; there is no travel required for the Campaign Fellows program. You will need to have a decent internet connection for the webinar sessions, and the ability to communicate with your study group throughout the week.
The time commitment needed to participate in a certificate course is meant to fit with your full time role. You are expected to participate in each of the 2-hr sessions each week, plus other time (usually 1-2 hrs total per week) needed to complete assignments, discuss with your team, and review prep materials for sessions.
The program is also designed to encourage community building among organizers. One of the most valuable things you will take away from this experience is the cohort of like-minded badasses across the country who will be there to support you - and you them - throughout all the good and the bad times to come.
Who teaches at Movement School?
We are over the moon about our mentors and our speakers! Some of the best progressive campaign professionals in the country will be conducting trainings and coaching teams through their assignments. Please take advantage of them! Do your homework before the training sessions, come prepared with questions to ask them, and engage with them during the feedback process. You can see a list of our 2019-2020 mentors and speakers here.
what are the requirements to receive a certificate?
In order to complete a certificate course, you need to do the following:
You are allowed to miss one session (of the six), but more than one and you will not receive a certificate.
Submit your full assignment.
Peer review the assignments of each member of your study group.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you will miss one of these requirements and would like to find a way to make up for it. Each of these 3 requirements is really important to our learning methodology so we can’t promise that accommodations will always be made - but at the same time we do understand that these are difficult times and some bumps are unavoidable.
How much do the courses cost?
We do not charge any tuition fees. Other than needing a decent internet connection, there are no other costs associated with Movement School.
How does the Registration process work?
You register on our website. The form should take around 5 minutes to complete. Once your registration is submitted, you will get an email confirming receipt. Our team reviews everyone before confirming admission to ensure that our space stays safe. The review process can take a few days, depending on how many people are registering at once. We will try to move quickly to confirm admissions when courses are close to starting.
I’m In! Now what
Badass! Welcome aboard :)
You will be sent an email to register for the Campus Slack space, as well as calendar invites for upcoming events. There will be a lot of activities going on in the Slack space outside of coursework, so take a look around and join the things which interest you. And if you have ideas for activities, let us know! Community-led events are a huge part of our community.
